Treasure In Heaven

From many angles this past week, the Lord has been giving me Scriptures about laying up treasure in heaven rather than chasing after earthly possessions. I like my creature comforts, but I sure don't want to lose sight of what He has for me in eternity. I feel like I'm still very earth-bound in my outlook on life, perhaps because I study Scripture but rarely apply it.

I'm writing this blog entry as a challenge to myself to apply Matthew 6:19-21.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NKJV

God's interested in more than my wardrobe and my DVD collection. He wants me to actively pursue His kingdom and His righteousness. My job, now, is to find the specifics of that calling.

More Doillies

As a child, I had limited use of my left hand (as long as I sat on the floor), allowing me the ability to draw pictures. My Cerebral Palsy naturally made controlling the pencils and crayons difficult, so a frequently had lines where I wanted curves, colors outside boundaries, and other "interesting" effects.

When I was 15, my dislocated hip made it impossible for me to continue sitting on the floor, so my artistic pursuits gave way to writing. I did study art history a little in college, while majoring in English Literature. And I visited art musuems often. But from time to time, I'd miss drawing my own creations. So when John gave me Paint Shop Pro for my 50th birthday, and then a year later insisted on getting me an e-book teaching me how to use it, I once again possessed the ability to draw! The Lord restored my favorite recreational activity! He knew, better than I did, how much I love creating visual images.

Creating these doillies has encouraged me so much. I was the kid who couldn't color within the lines, and now I'm making intricate lace doillies! Isn't the Lord good?

Something Pretty

I drew this in about two hours today, loosly following a Paint Shop Pro tutorial I found online for doillies. The frame is my own invention.

He's A Geek!

John's a good sport to let me share this photo of him using two computers at one time. It really was too funny to pass up, though! I often tease him about being such a geek, so when I saw him doing this yesteray, I asked my attendent, Lonnie Torres, to snap this photo.

John's willingness to laugh at himself is one of the many things I love about him. Only a man of humility would allow his wife to publish a photo like this one.

Although I tease him mercilessly, I try to make sure he always feels respected and admired. As you can see by this photo, my husband works hard to provide for me. He was actually working on two of his businesses at once when my attendent took this picture, and I know he's doing it for my benefit. So, while I laugh at him, I'm also very proud of him for being industrious. I'm a very blessed lady to have married such a man!

But...he is a geek!

Marriage Advice

It's been a while--perhaps too long--since I've posted. Too much is going on in my life lately, and it's not appropriate matter for this blog. John and are fine, and our marriage is strong, so please don't feel alarmed.

Just before I married John, a friend gave me some good advice. She said, "When trias come, make sure you turn to each other, not on each other." I think that's the best marriage advice I received! In these trials, God has helped us do just that, and it's a beautiful thing.
